Whitby station has a travel centre where you can get all the timetables for the Northern Rail Esk Valley Line (Whitby Middlesbrough) and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (Whitby-Grosmont-Goathland-Pickering).

Heading down the Esk valley towards Whitby.

The River Esk is crossed several times on the trip down into Whitby.

Just passed Ruswarp with the 120 ft (~36) spire of St Bartholemew's Church on the right.

Passing under the great railway Larpool viaduct that once carried the coast line from Teesside round and down the coast to Scarborough.

Passing under the Whitby-Scarborough Road bridge with St Mary's Church and Whitby Abbey on the distant cliff horizon.

The banner advertises the running of steam trains on Network Rail between Grosmont and Whitby by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, so a quick trip from Grosmont to Whitby!
