Great Central Railway: Ex British Railways BR standard class 2MT 2-6-0 78018 (built at Darlington Works in 1954 to a BR standard design by Robert Riddles).

2MT 78018 was designed to haul light freight trains and light branch line passenger trains (mixed traffic class).

78018 leads a double-header from Bury Bolton Street station to Rawtenstall (East Lancashire Railway Spring Steam Gala 2019)

BR standard Class 2MT steam locomotive 78018 was built in 1953 at Darlington North Road Works and entered traffic 1954, and allocated to West Auckland Shed (County Durham). Then 78018 was moved to Kirkby Stephen, where it worked trains from Tebay to Barnard Castle on the Stainmore Railway. It was while on this line that 78018 became famous by getting stuck in a snow drift in February 1955 when it was hauling a Kirkby Stephen to West Auckland goods across the bleak and steeply graded line when it became stuck in the snowdrift. It was not reached by the snowplough until two days later by which time it had become frozen solid. It was eventually rescued by fellow 'comrade' 78019!
