THE CROSSING, Quire entrance & Screen and CENTRAL TOWER of YORK MINSTER
York Minster - The Crossing and Tower: The 15th century Central Tower at the Crossing, built in the Perpendicular style and is 200 feet high.
Looking from the south transept into the Crossing, the nave goes off to the left and beyond on the right is the north transept.
York Minster - The Crossing and Tower: Magnificent stone vaulting in the nave and chancel in all directions from the central tower at the intersection of the nave, choir and transepts of York Minster. The central tower was finished around 1480.

York Minster - The Crossing and Tower: Beyond the altar at the east end of the nave is the 15th century screen and entrance to the Quire (Choir) below the organ console.
York Minster - The Crossing and Tower: The screen is decorated with statues of the fifteen kings of England from William I to Henry VI. All the figures are the originals from the 15th century except that end one on the right of Henry VI, which is a 19th century replacement. Above all the kings, angels play medieval instruments to the glory of God and father who sits over the arch.
York Minster - The Crossing and Tower: Looking across from the south transept to the north transept and the Screen and Choir-Quire entrance. It is probable that William Hyndley carved the Screen , because under King John there is a hind, his sign and play on his name.
