The Wasdale Headbangers are a group of 'young men' who have met every year in January and February to 'celebrate' their Lake District exploits and friendship originating from camping, walking and climbing, originating in the 1960s. The six original Wasdale Head Bangers were Barry, Ken, Mike, Pete, Shaun (aka Phil) and Bill, but many others derived from friends and family have joined the reunion over the years. The first Wasdale Head Bangers reunion was in 1971, in 2019 we celebrated our 49th reunion and we have now reached the 50th reunion in 2020! There is a technical dispute as to whether 2020 is the 49th or 50th reunion year, who cares?! We can do the same next year in 2021 to make sure! The photographs illustrate our yearly meeting in the Wasdale Head Inn and the landscape setting of Wasdale where many walks have been undertaken, both past and present and a few, we hope, in the future, even beyond 2020? For many of the 'participants', The Wasdale Head Bangers reunion weekend often starts on a Friday night in The Bridge Inn at Santon Bridge.
The weather wasn't too bad for the 50th Reunion Wasdale Head Bangers in 2020. (Apart from 50-60 mph gusts of wind above 2000 ft on Saturday!)

To contrast matters! A very 'strenuous walk' and lunch in Miterdale! Followed by much needed refreshment in the Bower House Inn Mike, Pete, Shaun, Duncan, Dave, Jay in any order! (Shaun, as ever, was behind the camera!)

This year it came to £230, and Pete reckons we have contributed from 2007 to 2020 £1730 to the very important Air Ambulance & Wasdale Mountain Rescue - I'm glad to say, over the years, we haven't need them! (yet!) The Portrait Gallery! Unfortunately, Barry Hill could not attend our 50th reunion due to a broken leg! However, Barry is 'captured' on the right with Pete at the 49th reunion - he was there in spirit.

Sunday- most people had left, but weather had improved and Shaun and Duncan walked up to Sty Head Tarn

Tom and Co. went up to Sty Head on the Saturday (picture please Tom), but quite rightly, turned back due to bad weather, particularly high winds - gusts of 50-60 mph. On the Sunday Duncan and Shaun went up to Sty Head in much better weather as you can see below! However, we turned back too and returned for cake and other snacks while watching England beat Ireland in the Six Nations Rugby!

On the bottom right, the rather twee mezzanine was once the floor of a 'flea-bitten' room we first stayed in back in the early 1970s. These days most of us stay in B&B and self-catering holiday cottages, but Duncan still camped in 2019 - brave man!
