A fine stone walled barn with some sandstone inserts of windows, door and arched entrance in Syke House Farm.


The tiny church of St James at Buttermere built in 1842 with a bellcote tower and a short chancel.


The church is set in a superb situation looking across to the peak of Starling Dodd, even if the weather wasn't!

Lift your eyes to Haystacks his favourite place. 1907-1991" You can JUST see the outline of Haystacks in the top centre of the picture!

Left: A bronze relief commemorative plaque. It reads "They were lovely and pleasant in their lives". Alan Edmund Catherall RAF. Born Buttermere July 3rd 1921. Died Amboina Island (Indonesia) October 23rd 1943. Erected in loving memory by Cyril and Nora Catherall and his civil service friends." Like so many young service men, this aircraftman was so young, only 22 years old and is buried in Ambon War Cemetery, Indonesia.
