Peter's major exhibition at the "Inspired by ..." art gallery in the Moors National Park Centre, Danby, near Whitby, North Yorkshire, YO21 2NB was great success. It was a retrospective showing covering 60 years of work and artistic development of Peter M Hicks from young student, to teacher, to mature student to becoming the well known landscape artist.

On Saturday September 23rd, 2017, the well known North Yorkshire photographer Joe Cornish talked to Peter Hicks about his career and journey in art.

Some thoughts from Peter

This exhibition was a retrospective and covers my painting practise over a 60 year period, the large sunset in the small room is from a group of pieces done in 1990 that marks the time when I was able to devote the whole of my time to painting. Seven pieces in the small room show early influences and a group entitled Landscapes for a Dark Summer show a late development that again changed my procedures . The group of 80 small works are at the heart of the show, the wall of images is an insight into my visual struggle.

From September 3rd Peter has an exhibition at the 'Coast Gallery' in Cloughton/Burniston, near Scarborough, 11 Mill Lane, Cloughton, Scarborough, YO13 0AB. The Coast Gallery has a very good tea-room cafe and the gallery exhibits works by Yorkshire artists and sculptors with a range of paintings and ceramics.

Peter Hicks and Beverley Hicks are also taking part in the Staithes Art Festival 2017 on the coast of North Yorkshire on Saturday September 9th and Sunday September 10th.

These are followed by a massive retrospective exhibition of Peter's work over 60 years at the "Inspired by .. Gallery" at the Moors Centre, Danby on the North York Moors - see below for more details
