Portfolio 13 INDULGENCES

There is very large canvas taking up permanent residence on an important wall in my main studio, challenging me to address it once more. It has a smug look about it since I worked on it, on and off over fifteen or more years.

Yes, I have finished it on numerous occasions and it's shared in a number of shows. There are even those who have threatened to buy it, one couple considered building an extension to house it.

This painting may or may not appear on the walls of this show, yet its presence will have its affect on me. It has made me look again things that intrigue, fascinate, challenge and beckon me to consider and again re-consider.

This exhibition will attempt to reveal a few of these themes. Each room will be devoted to a separate indulgence that I return to from time to time, once after fifty five years, another after only a brief association.

Although I show my work in various parts of the country including London, the Zillah Bell Gallery (in Thirsk, North Yorkshire) is the one where I feel happiest showing this varied type of work. The spaces are perfect for each theme and the atmosphere offers a privacy for those looking to engage with the work intimately.
