St Wilfrid's RC Church, York: A fine wood moulding carved in oak.
Across the road from York Minster is the Roman Catholic Church of St Wilfrid in Duncombe Place, seen here in the centre looking up Museum Street.

St Wilfrid's RC Church, York:
St Wilfrid's RC Church, York: The highly ornately doorway entrance to St Wilfrid. St Wilfrid's Church was designed by George Goldie and this 'High Victorian' building was built in 1862-1864.
St Wilfrid's RC Church, York: Looking down the nave to the polygonal apse and altar. It is built in late 13th century neo-gothic style and the pillars of the aisle arcade arches are quite massive and assertive with a pronounced shaft ring and elaborate Early-French Gothic capitals.
St Wilfrid's RC Church, York: A humble statue of St Margaret Clitherow - a Catholic martyr who was executed in 1586 for harbouring Catholic Priests - she helped them to secretly enter and leave the City of York.

Just across Duncombe Place from St Wilfrid's Church is the fine looking building of the Assembly Rooms in Blake Street, now used for functions was erected by public subscription from 1730-1736 to the design of Richard Boyle, Earl of Burlington. The facade is not by Burlington, but by Pritchett & Watson in 1828, and consists of smooth ashlar, tetrastyle portico of unfluted Ionic columns with pediments.
Round the corner from Duncombe Place is St Leonards Place - a handsome row of houses with a continuous iron-railed balcony.
St Paul's Church, Holgate Road, York, was built in 1850-1851 by J.B. & W. Atkinson, though the chancel was added in 1891.
