Fountains Hall was built between 1598 and 1611 by Sir Stephen Proctor who used stone materials from the ruins of the south-east part of Fountains Abbey.
Fountains Hall was acquired by the Aislabie family in 1768.

FOUNTAINS MILL

Fountains Mill is the oldest building on the Studley Royal estate and lies just to the west of Fountains Abbey.

Fountains Mill was built by the Cistercian monks in the 12th-century to grind grain for the monastery.

Fountains Mill was built by the lay brothers to serve the surrounding rural community.

Fountains Mill survived the closure of the Abbey and continued in use to mill grain to 1927.

Throughout its long history, the building of Fountains Mill has also been a monastic granary, a timber sawmill, a home for refugees, and a mason’s workshop.

It is the oldest Cistercian mill still in existence in Europe and one of the oldest in the world.
