56. Climbing Ingleborough from near Ingleton

Ingleborough is one of the mountains of the 'Three Peaks Challenge",

along with Pen-y-ghent and Whernside. Ingleborough is the 2nd highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales and a large part of it is designated a site of special scientific interest and nature reserve.

OS Explorer Map OL2 is useful for the broader picture, but we did a simple 'there and back' walk to the summit using the well trodden, easy to follow Fell Lane track from just above Ingleton and via Crina Bottom.

The track up to Ingleborough bears west just as the B6255 road goes north out of Ingleton.

The walk starts near the large house near Storrs Common.

A bit of a scramble for the final stage to the summit of Ingleborough.

The summit of Ingleborough is quite flat and was once an Iron Age enclosure.

Very windy on the top of Ingleborough, but sheltered behind the wall for our picnic.

Ingleton is getting pretty hazy from the top of Ingleborough.

Lots of shattered weathered rock on the descent of Ingleborough.
