The peak of Roseberry Topping lies on the Cleveland - North Yorkshire border, so this particular route starts above Sleddale, North Yorkshire, at the end of a cul-de-sac lane near Percy Rigg.

Roseberry Topping (1051 ft, 320 m) straddles the Cleveland - North Yorkshire boundary, a favourite tourist walk and it dominates the skyline driving along the Great Ayton - Guisborough Road.

Mist covers the top of Roseberry Topping! Its a good walk to the top, but preferably in good walking weather. View from the car park at Hasty Bank.

The geology history walks around Roseberry Topping in Cleveland, England are a popular way to explore the area's fascinating past. The walk takes you through a variety of geological formations, including sandstones, shales, and limestones, which were laid down over millions of years.

The first section of the walk takes you up the steep slopes of Roseberry Topping, which is made up of the hard sandstones of the Lower Jurassic. These rocks are some of the oldest in the area and were formed around 200 million years ago in a warm, shallow sea.

As you climb higher, the rocks become thinner and more easily eroded, giving rise to the softer shales and mudstones of the Middle Jurassic. These rocks were formed around 180 million years ago and can be seen in the lower slopes of the hill.

The next section of the walk takes you along the Cleveland Escarpment, a line of cliffs that runs along the edge of the North York Moors. Here, you can see the layers of sandstone and limestone that were laid down during the Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous periods, around 150 to 100 million years ago.

Along the way, you'll also encounter evidence of the area's more recent past, including the remains of ironstone mines and the industrial heritage of the Teesside area.
