The gardens have now been going for 40 years in which the small cottage garden areas and wild flower meadow have been constantly developed to provide the visitor with a most worthwhile visit. My wife, Molly, is the gardener, but I really enjoyed walking around too, with the camera always at the ready! I don't consider myself a particularly good photographer.

 I'm more of a 'digital illustrator' and wherever I go I try to encapsulate in a series of images that tell a story' of what I see in a place, and what a delightful place Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens was to photograph.

Stillingfleet gardens include lots of sumptuous herbaceous borders that change with the change of seasons and attract many species of different insects.

There is a careful use of foliage is used to add interest and texture to the beds with a range of shade - loving plants to provide colour throughout the year. In the Nurseries lots of the plants in the garden are available to buy in the well-stocked plant nursery, where there is large selection of pulmonarias and geraniums. Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens lays on workshops for gardening enthusiasts.

At the courtyard Cafe, in a lovely old renovated barn, you can relax in peaceful surroundings and enjoy homemade cakes and refreshing teas and coffees to your heart's content.

Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens were began in the late 1970's and now occupy two acres around a late 18th century farmhouse. They are a bit off the beaten track, but well worth a visit and truly deserves more visitors.

A pair of garden book readers in the Courtyard - we loved the relaxed pose of the statue and visitor by the cafe entrance which was built from an old cowshed!

The are lots of hens, chickens and cocks around of a variety of rare poultry species!

The ethos of the garden is to harmoniously combine nature and nurture ...

... of both plants and animals!

The modern water feature of the Rill Garden is a most delightful sight with the water running down a polished steel surface reflecting the grasses  and over the rills (photos taken from left and right side).

We loved the way the plants are allowed to grow between the stones around the old farmhouse.

The rather striking bark on this tree was emphasised by the flash photography.

The little hut by the wildlife pond which contains charts for identifying butterflies and birds - but need one for the poultry?
