6b. Walking on Ingleby Moor and Greenhow Moor

From the village of Kildale you can take the Baysdale road and park at the top just before this minor road turns sharp left to descend into Baysdale.

You get great views to the west of the Cleveland Hills and to the north, of the Cleveland Plain

The Cleveland Hills

North of Bloworth Crossing on Greenhow Moor the bed of the old mineral railway track is still plainly visible and now forms part of a footpath. The railway once ran east right across the Moors to Blakey Ridge and down into, and around, the ironstone mines of Rosedale.

The railway reaches the edge of the moor tops where on the OS map it says "Incline Top" (see above/below). The wagons of iron ore were lowered down the inline using a gravity system.

Looking down the track bed of incline, and the railway tracks eventually ran to Battersby Junction Station and on to the blast furnaces on Teesside.
