St Mungo was a 6th century missionary and the patron saint of Glasgow. The Cathedral is 'traditionally' sited on the location of St Mungo's cell.
The Chapel and Tomb of St Mungo, but also note the massive columns and arches supporting the east end of the Quire above. Below the Quire is the 'crypt' containing St Mungo's Tomb. The eastern extension was built over the side of the ravine between the Cathedral and the Necropolis in the 13th century. The St Mungo LMS railway train ran from the demolished Glasgow Buchanan Street station to Aberdeen
