Westminster Abbey: The abbey probably has its origins in a small Benedictine monastery in the late 10th century, for which Edward the Confessor built a large church of which little remains. In 1245 King Henry III began the rebuilding of the abbey in the style of the recently completed Rheims Cathedral. Richard II and Henry VII made their own significant contributions. Finally in the 18th century Nicholas Hawksmoor gave the church its pseudo-Gothic twin towers.

The magnificent Henry VII's Chapel in Westminster Abbey. Note the magnificent and intricate fan vaulting supporting the roof. This amazing piece of architecture was built in 1503 as his future resting place. It is considered the grand finale of the English Perpendicular style of architecture. There are nearly one hundred statues of saints installed above the chapel choir stalls.

Westminster Abbey: The 11th century Pyx Chamber which was used as a monastic and royal treasury. The Pyx Chamber lies between the Chapter House and the Great Cloister, from which it is accessed.

Westminster Abbey: The 13th stone altar in the Pyx Chamber survived the reformation. The Pyx chamber was originally the sacristy of Edward the Confessor's church. The short massive pillars support the vaulting holding up the upper floor.
