The crowds waiting for the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. The original building was built 1702 as the Duke of Buckingham's city residence. The building was modified by the Prince Regent in the late 1820s by Nash and also by Aston Webb for George V's coronation in 1913.

Buckingham Palace has been the permanent London residence of the monarch since the time of Queen Victoria, currently occupied by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. On the left is the huge monument to Queen Victoria.

Some very ornate iron gates across from the entrance to Buckingham Palace, the drive leads upto St James's Palace, which you can just glimpse in the distance.

St James's Park, the oldest of the royal parks, a lovely place to stroll around with its beautiful trees and lake, but it is very crowded in the peak summer holiday months.

St James's Park, dating from drained land for hunting by Henry VIII, was landscaped into its present form by Nash in 1828.
