The Tees Barrage is on the River Tees, near Thornaby, between the towns of Stockton and Middlesbrough. The Tees Barrage is a barrage across the River Tees to control the flow of the river, preventing flooding and the effects of tidal change. The Tees Barrage complex consists of a river barrage, road bridge, footbridge, barge lock, fish pass and white water course for competition canoeing. The waters above the barrage are held at the level of an average high tide and are used for water sports such as canoeing, jet skiing, dragonboat racing and even incorporates a 1 km rowing course.

The Tees Barrage is a major project in the UK located on the River Tees estuary. It was constructed in 1995 as a part of the Tees Barrage and Stockton-on-Tees flood defense scheme. The primary purpose of the Tees Barrage project was to protect Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough from flooding while also generating renewable energy for the area.

One of the main features of the Tees Barrage project is the Tees Barrage International White Water Centre, which provides world-class sports facilities for water sports enthusiasts. The white water course is used for a variety of activities including kayaking, canoeing, white water rafting, and bodyboarding.

The Tees Barrage Sports Center is home to various activities such as archery, rock climbing, and trampolining. The center has a range of facilities including a 25-meter swimming pool, squash courts, gym, and fitness studio.

In addition to sports facilities, the Tees Barrage has a learning center which provides education and training for individuals of all ages in regards to water safety, environmental awareness, and recreational water activities.

The Tees Barrage has become a major attraction for tourists and sports enthusiasts in the UK. It provides an excellent opportunity for individuals to access high-quality facilities and engage in various water sports activities. Moreover, the Tees Barrage has contributed to the transformation of the River Tees from an industrial waterway to a recreational waterway.
