A summary of the chemical shifts of the 1H proton and 13C NMR spectra of cyclopentene

Cyclopentene, structural skeletal formula of cyclopentene structural isomers of molecular formula C5H8 formula mass 68, skeletal formula, a cycloalkene

Number of low resolution NMR chemical shift δ signal peaks: 3 1H and 3 13C

Relatively few NMR spectra peaks due to the high symmetry of the cyclopentene molecule.

For the NMR spectra of cyclopentene, reading the formula of from bottom to top and applying the simplified n+1 rule for chemical shift splitting due to immediately adjacent non-equivalent protons:

1H NMR integrated ratio of peaks: 2 (2x1) : 4 (2x2) : 2 (for equivalent protons)

1H NMR signals ppm: 5.73 (triplet), 2.30 (quartet), 1.82 (quintet)  (in CDCl3)

Note that the two alkene protons in cyclopentene are equivalent to each other, i.e. same chemical environment, and therefore cannot split each other's proton signals, so take care in employing the n+1 rule..

13C NMR signals ppm: 130.8, 32.6, 23.0 (in CDCl3)
