Greenhead Village in Northumberland

There are some quite fine mid-18th century gravestones in the graveyard of St Cuthbert's Church, Greenhead

The Greenhead Hotel

The Youth Hostel (former Methodist Chapel) and Ye Olde Forge Tea Rooms Cafe, which also acts as a tourist information centre.

No longer a station in Greenhead.

Quite a fine looking house at the top east end of Greenhead with a date of 1757 above the doorway.

The pedestrian railway level crossing at Greenhead - watch for the traffic lights!

Gilsland Village straddles the Cumbria - Northumberland border!

The village of Gilsland is near a good section of Hadrian's Wall and is on a circular walk from the village itself near the old station. There is parking just up beyond the Samson Inn by the railway track.

The old station buildings of Gilsland Station, now the ex waiting room on the left is a rented cottage.

	The Samson Inn is good pub with a friendly atmosphere, good service and good food - well they look happy on the left, don't they!

The River Irthing near the confluence with the Poltross Burn in Gilsland and the appropriately named Bridge Inn.

North East Index
