Belsay Hall & Gardens and medieval Belsay Castle Scenes of Northumbria - Northumberland BELSAY HALL Sir Charles Monck (who had changed his name from Middleton) built Belsay Hall in 1810-1817 to his own designs based on studies from 1804-1806, made on his honeymoon in Athens! The plans were drawn up by John Dobson of Newcastle architectural fame. Belsay Hall is a block of six by six bays raised like a Greek temple on a podium of three steps. Belsay Hall is built of attractive honey-coloured stone.
In the upper part of the model is Belsay Castle and below it Belsay Hall with the surrounding grounds in which you find gardens, sculptures etc. etc.!

* BELSAY CASTLE
In the grounds of Belsay Hall is Belsay Castle, one of the finest and most impressive medieval castles in Northumberland.
The tower and facade of Belsay Castle, much of it dates from early to mid 14th century, but the two storeyed house adjoining the medieval castle was built in 1614.
