Worcestershire, England, 2021 Scenes in English South-West Midlands The Priory of Great Malvern was a monastery for over 450 years, from 1075 to 1540. After the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII, local people bought the church and saved it from destruction and continued as the parish church of Great Malvern to this day.
The present building was begun in 1085 major
rebuilding work in the 15th century (~1440 to 1500) to increase the size
of the church e.g. the nave was extended upwards based on the great
columns of the Norman Romanesque church. It has the largest collection

Misericord seating in the choir of Great Malvern Priory Church. These 'mercy seats' were installed, with their elaborate carvings, in the 14th and 15th centuries - the carvings depict mythological creatures, domestic scenes and the 'labours of the months' - some examples of the detailed carvings are shown below.
