Central Library and a 'wild flower' garden

The original William Brown Library and Museum were built from 1857-1860.

The building was designed by Thomas Allom but later modified by the Corporation Architect John Wightman.

The frontage is 17 bays long with a six column Corinthian Portico with pediments modelled on St George's Hall and an entrance up a wide staircase.

The building was gutted in the 2nd World War, but reconstructed by the then City architect R. Bradbury..

The internal architecture has been relatively recently modernised and I think the result is really good.

The wild flower garden is found between the World Museum and the Central Library in William Brown Street.
