A tombolo is a band of sand or shingle (a type of isthmus, spit or bar) separating an 'island' from the mainland.

Dog’s Bay Beach, located in County Galway, Ireland, is a breathtaking horseshoe-shaped bay known for its white sandy shores and crystal-clear turquoise waters. It lies just outside Roundstone Village and is uniquely positioned back-to-back with Gurteen Bay Beach, forming a rare tombolo.

The sand here is not made of limestone but tiny seashell fragments, giving it a pure white color. The beach is remote and unspoiled, offering a tranquil escape for visitors. However, there are no lifeguards, toilets, or changing facilities, so planning ahead is essential.

Visitors can enjoy swimming, walking, and watersports, though caution is advised due to the lack of lifeguards. Conservation efforts have been ongoing since 1991 to protect the fragile sand dunes and Machair grasslands, which are vital for preserving the beach’s ecosystem.

Dog's Bay Beach in Connemara is a stunning coastal area known for its white sandy shores and turquoise waters. Ravens are commonly found across Ireland including Dog's Bay Beach and good example of the region's diverse wildlife and rugged landscapes which makes it a suitable habitat for various bird species, including ravens. If you're interested in spotting them keep an eye on the open landscapes above Dogs Bay beach.
