The Ahenny High Crosses are to be found in the small enclosed Kil Clispeen churchyard, the ancient monastic site of Kilclispen in a small fertile Lingaum valley that runs into the Slievenamon Hills.

Two of Irelands finest 'high crosses' are found in the Kil Clispeen churchyard and are dated from their designs to the 8th century and finely carved in sandstone.

The bases of the Ahenny High Crosses are heavy, stepped and usually carved with narrative scenes depicting groups of animals and people, nature or hunting, processions and battles.

The stone surface of the Ahenny High Crosses are often richly decorated with abstract ornamentation e.g. spirals, fret and interlace patterns.

The symbolism on the Ahenny High Crosses obviously had potent meaning for the early Christian society in Ireland
