The Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed
Virgin Mary was opened in 1912, built within sight of its
predecessor, St Mary's.
Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was the first church in the region to be built in
the Hiberno-Romanesque style.
The round bell
tower was added to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1931 - mimicking the round towers found at many early
Christian churches in Ireland.
There is also the Church of Ireland
Church of the Ascension too. Both churches are well worth a
visit.

Looking down the nave to the altar of Church of the

brightly lit church, I don't like dark churches!
The magnificent Harry Clarke stained glass windows over the entrance.
The church is notable for its stained glass windows
by Harry Clarke (born 1899), the famous stained glass artist with his
studios in Dublin.

The windows are noted for their finesse of drawing
and rich colours, particularly for their deep blues.

The Church of Ireland's
Church of the Ascension in Timoleague - unfortunately closed for
restoration work when we visited in 2021..
The present church was built in
1811 on the site of a much earlier church. The church has several
beautiful features including stained glass windows and some famous
mosaics that were paid for by the H.R.H the Maharajah of Gwalior, India
and the Travers family.
