There is good parking down the side road parallel to the River Nidd down
left from the bottom of the High Street by the Wildings Cafe. *
On heading back from the car park to Pateley Bridge's High Street you pass the house that was once the old LNER railway station that was the terminus of the branch line from Harrogate to Pateley Bridge opened in 1862, but the 'Nidd Valley' line closed in 1964.

This route takes you up the High Street of Pateley Bridge.

Panorama View from 'The Rock' viewing platform
The information board tells you the history of the Victorian built 'Rock' viewing platform Golden Jubilee.
The Rock viewing platform was first railed and surfaced in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria's. You carry on up the path parallel to Ripley Bank below you and climb up to Knott .
You descend down a path through Knottside Farm to the B 6165 and walk along a short distance to take a path down to Glasshouses and the River Nidd with pleasant views of Nidderdale.
You pass through Glasshouses village and negotiate a path by Glasshouses Mill (being re-developed in 2019)
You then continue walking SEE along the NE bank of the River Nidd down in Nidderdale.
You pass under the remains of the railway bridge that once carried the branch line from Harrogate to Pateley Bridge over the River Nidd.
Eventually you reach a footbridge, which you cross to the opposite bank of the River Nidd and follow the river on the path heading NWW back towards Pateley Bridge.
It is a beautiful along the River Nidd, as scenic as anything in Nidderdale.
Near the footbridge proved a good spot to have a picnic!
Then on we go back to Glasshouses and on to Pateley Bridge.
Once again you pass under the old railway bridge of the now disused Harrogate to Pateley Bridge branch line.
PLEASE admire the wonderful workmanship of the railway stone masons
Perhaps the best view of the bridge?, once part of the Nidd Valley Line.
Now approaching the Glasshouses Mill development ...
... still under development in 2019. Glasshouses Mill was a flax mill.
You cross the bridge in Glasshouses by the Mill to continue walking on the northerly bank of the River Nidd back to Pateley Bridge.
This charming Glasshouses 19th century mill has been converted into a collection of 1 to 4 bedroom luxury apartments, cottages and houses. Its location in the heart of Nidderdale allows residents to experience a truly idyllic lifestyle, with panoramic views of the Yorkshire Dales countryside and a peaceful setting alongside the River Nidd. Glasshouses Mill is only a short drive of Pateley Bridge and Harrogate, Glasshouses Mill is located in a beautiful countryside village, surrounded by picturesque woodland walks, waterscapes and breath-taking views.
After Glasshouse Mill you walk past the vast reservoir and sluice system that once served the mill.
After the reservoir the path is very tree-lined with good native old woodland.
A passerby said this was a 'leach house' for cultivating the leeches for the barbaric and ignorant practice of bloodletting!

Just before Pateley Bridge, another old station house, I think this was Dacre station?, now a private dwelling.

Just across the bridge from the Wildings Cafe is a children's play area in Pateley Bridge.
The Wildings tea room and riverside cafe, by the River Nidd, proved a suitable place to seek refreshment at the end of a beautiful walk.

The 'Pillars Past' art project by Joseph Hayton is erected on the site
of the turntable used to reverse the steam locomotives that worked the
Nidd Valley line from Harrogate to Pateley Bridge. You can still see some of the
supporting stones from the turntable in the picture below.
