The Inaugural 2015 Tour de Yorkshire Cycle Race and in 2016 too passing through Castleton & Danby, North Yorkshire, England and a few shots of the Tour of Britain cycle race of 2022 passing through Castleton A great sporting spectacle, lets hope its repeated in 2017 etc. Scenes around the Upper Esk Valley Upper Esk Valley Index Stage One of the Tour de Yorkshire started in the seaside town of Bridlington and 174km later finished further up the coast in Scarborough. Riders from all over the world passed through spectacular coastal scenery and the iconic North York Moors moorland and village landscapes. From the start line in Bridlington the riders headed for the Flamborough Head Heritage Coast before turning away from the coast into the North York Moors National Park, passing through Dalby Forest and on to Pickering. Then took a spectacular journey back to the coast at Whitby, and headed south to Robin Hood’s Bay (what a climb out of RHB!) and lastly a sprint finish on the seafront at Scarborough to end stage 1 of the Tour de Yorkshire. Stage Two of the Tour de Yorkshire started at the imposing building of Selby Abbey and a route through the Yorkshire Wolds, and on towards Market Weighton, through North Newbald and on to Beverley, before turning north to Malton, then on to Stamford Bridge. Spectators watched a circuit in historic York before the finish line of Stage 2 of the Tour de Yorkshire.
Stage Three of the Tour de Yorkshire saw the peloton make a return to some of the roads raced in the 2014 Yorkshire Grand Départ of the Tour de France. Starting in Wakefield, riders travelled south to Barnsley before heading to Holmfirth where they pick up the Grand Départ route in reverse, racing to Ripponden before riding the iconic Cragg Vale - which in the Tour de France was the country’s longest continual climb and now becomes the longest continual descent. The riders then made their way to Hebden Bridge, Oxenhope and through the famous cobbled streets of Haworth, an iconic images of the Tour de France in Yorkshire. After a steep climb at Goose Eye the riders once again saw Ilkley, with the famous climb up the Cow & Calf before a sprint point at Arthington and then to the a hugely popular finish line in Roundhay Park in Leeds to end the final stage, Stage 3 of the Tour de Yorkshire. Castleton and Danby are included as Part of Stage 1 of the 'le Tour de Yorkshire' starting from Bridlington and ending in Scarborough.
