29. Danby Dale (6) St Hilda's Church & environs

Danby's St Hilda's Church lies in the heart of Danby Dale with Church Farm near it. Its origins are medieval, serving the local rural community.

Only recently noticed that a sign appeared in 2020 on the entrance to St Hilda's Church, Danby, signifying the graveyard is now the site of a Commonwealth Grave. The grave has apparently been there for several years, but I hadn't noticed it. It is the war grave of a J. A. Wilson who died in 1943 aged 23. He was a driver with the Royal Army Service Corps. A very beautiful and peaceful final resting place for him.

St Hilda's Church, Danby: Much of the church you see is of Victorian restoration work, but the tower is 15th century and the site goes back to early medieval times.

The grave of my parents (William Cyril Brown & Edith May Brown - nee Edith Reakes), they loved coming to stay with their grandchildren in the old schoolhouse at Castleton

Music Concerts at St Hilda's Church, Danby Dale

This concert was laid on via Whitby's Music Port. Its quite an atmospheric location for a concert.

There was a folk singer, a man playing a saw and a trio consisting of a drummer, guitarist and vocalist.

St Hilda's Church Danby Dale, also hosts concerts as part of the very popular and greatly successful North York Moors Chamber Music Festival.
