Chemical Equation Revision Practice - a worksheet on writing word equations & balancing symbol equations Part 2a Symbol Equation Questions for the reactions of acids with metals, oxides, hydroxides and carbonates and hydrogen carbonates in KS4 science GCSE/IGCSE CHEMISTRY courses 1a Word Equation Questions * 1b Word Equation Question Answers * 2b Symbol Equation Question Answers * Acids, Bases & Salts Notes * ALL my GCSE KS4 Science-CHEMISTRY revision notes GCSE KS4 Science-CHEMISTRY m/c Q's * EMAIL query?comment Spelling note: sulphuric acid = sulfuric acid, sulphate = sulfate, aluminium = aluminum (US) You must know four general word equations, all of which involve neutralisation (Foundation or Higher students) and higher students would be expected to write and interpret them as symbol equations too. (i) is also a redox reaction. (i) metal + acid ==> a salt + hydrogen (ii) basic oxide or hydroxide + acid ==> a salt + water (iii) carbonate + acid ==> a salt + water + carbon dioxide (iv) ammonia + acid ==> ammonium salt (note: no water formed, but ammonia (NH3) is an alkaline gas and soluble in water and neutralised by acids to form ammonium salts (NH4 ...) The name of the salt depends on (i) the metal name, which becomes the first part of salt name, and (ii) the acid e.g. H2SO4 sulphuric acid makes a ... sulphate (...SO4), HCl hydrochloric acid makes a ... chloride (...Cl), HNO3 nitric acid makes a … nitrate (...NO3) and and CH3COOH ethanoic acid makes an ethanoate (...OOCCH3 or CH3COO..). 'SOME' FORMULA HELP: for MO, M = Mg, Ca, Cu, Zn ; for MOH, M = Na, K ; for M(OH)2, M = Mg, Ca, Cu, Zn; for MCO3, M = Cu, Zn, Ca, Mg ; for M2CO3 M = Na, K ; and Al2O3, Al(OH)3, AlCl3, Al2(SO4)3, NH3, NH4, CH3COOM where M = Na, K and (CH3COO)2M where M = Mg, Ca, Cu, Zn. 2a SYMBOL EQUATION QUESTIONS (you might have to supply balancing numbers in the equations and try to get the state symbols correct too!) 1. GCSE at Doc Brown's Chemistry Clinic: Science-chemistry for revising course content e.g. practice balancing equations of acids with oxides hydroxides carbonates bases alkalis word equations balanced symbol equations structure formula/formulae annotated/labelled diagrams apparatus information methods of preparation described properties defined explained facts data concepts principles theory explanation descriptive/descriptions definitions revision notes for practice balancing equations of acids with oxides hydroxides carbonates bases alkalis, tests and multiple choice quizzes for practice balancing equations of acids with oxides hydroxides carbonates bases alkalis, worksheets for practice balancing equations of acids with oxides hydroxides carbonates bases alkalis, practice questions for practice balancing equations of acids with oxides hydroxides carbonates bases alkalis covering GCSE/IGCSE/O level international Science-Chemistry/KS4 Single award Science-Chemistry, double award Science, triple award Science chemistry courses for the exam/examination boards: AQA GCSE Science-Chemistry, Additional Science, Additional Applied Science; Edexcel 360 Science, GCSE Additional Science, Chemistry; OCR 21st century science suite Science-Chemistry, Additional Science, Additional Applied Science; OCR Gateway Science Suite: GCSE Science, Additional Science, Applied Science, IGCSE Chemistry; WJEC Science-Chemistry, GCSE Additional Science; CCEA GCSE Science double award, GCSE Chemistry. The practice balancing equations of acids with oxides hydroxides carbonates bases alkalis content of this website should also help in the SQA and Irish cert./certificate courses and I know quite a few teachers find the site helpful revision for 'professional development' as well as their students revision of practice balancing equations of acids with oxides hydroxides carbonates bases alkalis.
