* York Area Index * 26. Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens & Nurseries
A nice array of potted plants up an old stone stairway. Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens were began in the late 1970's and now occupy two acres around a late 18th century farmhouse. They are a bit off the beaten track, but well worth a visit and deserve more visitors.
A pair of garden book readers in the Courtyard - we loved the relaxed pose of the statue and visitor by the cafe entrance which was built from an old cowshed!
The are lots of hens, chickens and cocks around of a variety of rare poultry species! The ethos of the garden is to harmoniously combine nature and nurture ... ... of both plants and animals!
The modern water feature of the Rill Garden is a most delightful sight with the water running down a polished steel surface reflecting the grasses and over the rills (photos taken from left and right side).

We loved the way the plants are allowed to grow between the stones around the old farmhouse.
