26. Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens & Nurseries

A nice array of potted plants up an old stone stairway.

Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens were began in the late 1970's and now occupy two acres around a late 18th century farmhouse. They are a bit off the beaten track, but well worth a visit and deserve more visitors.

A pair of garden book readers in the Courtyard - we loved the relaxed pose of the statue and visitor by the cafe entrance which was built from an old cowshed!

The are lots of hens, chickens and cocks around of a variety of rare poultry species!

The ethos of the garden is to harmoniously combine nature and nurture ...

... of both plants and animals!

The modern water feature of the Rill Garden is a most delightful sight with the water running down a polished steel surface reflecting the grasses  and over the rills (photos taken from left and right side).

Viewing down the Rill Garden with its water feature at the end.

We loved the way the plants are allowed to grow between the stones around the old farmhouse.

Part of the Front Garden.

Looking down the avenue from the house.

The pulmonarias and herbaceous borders (above and below) much appreciated by Molly.

-

Inquisitive poultry again!

Another view looking up The Avenue towards the house.

Busy busy bees!!!

Beautiful borders of flowers of many colours.

Lots of flowers for the bees and hedgerows for the birds.

The many varieties of herbs and plants

The rather striking bark on this tree was emphasised by the flash photography.

The little hut by the wildlife pond which contains charts for identifying butterflies and birds - but need one for the poultry?

The wildlife pond is somewhere in the middle of the pictures (above/below).

-

Another of the rare poultry species - this time a complete family of mother and seven chicks!

The Avenue of herbaceous plants and flowers.

The DIY cafe that was most tastefully constructed out of the old cowshed, nice coffee!

-

Part of the nurseries where you can buy a huge variety of plants.

Thank you Vanessa Cook for all your hard work - all who visit your gardens would say well done!
