8a. Selby Abbey Church. Selby Town and River Ouse

Selby, surprisingly? was originally in the old West Riding, rather than the East Riding, and you might think now it is in South Yorkshire but it isn't! Selby Town is actually in North Yorkshire! Original pictures from February 2011, new pictures added on a more sunny day in May 2011.

Selby Station. On the left my train from York and on the right a train arriving from Hull as it crosses the swing bridge over the River Ouse. Its nice to see quite a lot of the Victorian iron superstructure of the roof still in place and nicely painted.

Hugh de Pickworth's monument (tomb cover) - he fought for King Edward II in Scotland ion the early 14th century. and later served in the English parliament. In the north aisle is tomb cover of Margaret de Pickworth's - she was the wife of Hugh de Pickworth (left in the south aisle of the nave).
