St Mary's Church Goathland
built in 1896 on the site of a medieval church.
It is pleasant but busy
village in the summer because its tourist attraction status has been
much enhanced by the (Yorkshire Television)/ITV's TV '1960's' set series "Heartbeat". However, it is good
starting point for several really nice walks in the surrounding country
side. (see page 17-18)

Scripps Garage, featured in Yorkshire TV's drama series
"Heartbeat" Goathland becomes 1960's "Aidensfield".

The splendidly restored
Goathland Station is an important stop on the North Yorkshire Moors
Railway (see page 20).

A bit of shunting on view
for one of the LNER gala days.

The North
Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway runs steam trains on the
wonderfully scenic line from
Whitby-Grosmont-Goathland-Pickering. The shop on the
platform of Goathland Station sells drinks and snacks and
note the lovely purple heather of the surrounding moorland. |

If you have had
enough of the steam locomotive trains, walk up through Goathland
Village which at times acts as the film set of the UK ITV
drama series called "Heartbeat" where Goathland becomes
'Aidensfield' and the Goathland Hotel becomes the
'Aidensfield Arms'. On the left is 'Aidensfield's Scripps
Garage and Funeral Services'. |

The Goathland
Tea Rooms and Garden is next to the UK ITV1's "Heartbeat" film set 'Aidensfield
Stores' and further up the road is St Mary's Church of
Goathland. Unfortunately ITV is axing the series! but there
still lots of glorious walks over the surrounding
countryside. |
