8. Ruswarp and Sleights Ruswarp Village on the River Esk
The River Esk at Ruswarp is a safe place to go boating above the weir-dam and is only a few miles walking from the centre of Whitby.
All the rowing boats lined up for the customers at Ruswarp Carrs.
A good place to feed the ducks and have a picnic.
Looking down the River Esk towards Whitby from the road bridge at Ruswarp near the station.
A Middlesbrough - Whitby train departs from Ruswarp Station and crosses the Esk near the 'impressive' arched road bridge.
Looking back to Ruswarp from a train heading for Whitby.
Heading for Ruswarp alongside the River Esk on a steam train from Whitby - but the steam trains don't stop? Sleights
Sleights is a large village nestling in lower Eskdale that runs down to the River Esk and is just a few miles from Whitby at the end of the Esk Valley.
The main road is lined with older stone cottages, a few shops and newer houses.
Sleights Station is on the Whitby - Middlesbrough line and even the odd steam train from Whitby to Grosmont passes by just above the River Esk as well as the diesel multiple unit trains.
There is a popular large garden centre ...
... and riverside cafe to enjoy.
The Salmon Leap pub by the river, and the Eskdale Fisheries fish and chips up in the village, are popular places to eat too.
