Middleton-in-Teesdale is an old lead mining market town set above the beautiful River Tees. The Country Style Bakery and Teashop provides good refreshment to us on our way up Teesdale and onto Alston Town - a most beautiful and glorious drive across the Northern Pennine Hills.

The Conduit Cafe (above) and the Bridge Inn (left) on the road down to the river (bottom left) also provide suitable refreshment. Middleton-in-Teesdale is a good point of call when in this area of the Pennine Fells which surround and the cattle market across the river reflects the commercial importance of Midleton-in-Teesdale
