Danby Beacon, North York Moors National Park, North Yorkshire, England

Danby Beacon, one of the higher points on the North York Moors has a car park, a good spot for a picnic and a starting point for several walks. You are surrounded by much to view in all directions, beyond the wild purple heather moorland and in the 2nd world war it was the location of a radar station, by whose assistance the first German plane was shot down. By the old white painted trig point is an ancient bronze age burial mound (tumulus). More North York Moors scenes * Scenes around Whitby
