Plenty of good food, friendly service, the adjacent pretty Primrose Hill, one of the oldest parts of Castleton, and much good walking in nearby Danby Dale, Westerdale and Commondale on the North York Moors - As good a centre as any for taking a holiday in the North York Moors National Park

The Downe Arms Hotel (left), next to the post office in Castleton village, North Yorkshire, also offers a good 'warmly' served pub grub after watching a summer cricket game at the most picturesque set ground, or, winter walking in the Castleton-Danby Park Wood of downy (downey) birch trees. The Eskdale Inn (below) was the original station hotel in the days of steam (bottom right - 75029 pulling out of Castleton Station over the road bridge above the Eskdale pub).
