(previous picture) 21c. The iron bearing rock in Rosedale, North Yorkshire, was roasted in huge ovens to reduce the weight transported by rail to the blast furnaces of Teesside. The tracks were above and below the ovens whose stone has turned red from the heat of the oven furnace. (next picture)
