1. Pickering town - the main streets
Entering Pickering town centre of the busy Scarborough-Whitby-York-Helmsley roundabout. The spire of St Peter and St Paul is in the background.
The main shopping street in Pickering town centre. There is a good variety of shops and cafe's to suit most local and tourist needs.
BUT don't forget to poke around in the back streets' and alley ways - the limestone buildings feel very close together and medieval in this most pleasurable of towns to visit. * Pickering in Ryedale, close to the North York Moors, is a lovely friendly town and home to the start of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, a major tourist attraction. There are lots of other villages also worth visiting with good walking or pleasant car driving in between them, as well as the many old churches and other historic buildings for the visitor to explore. * * page updated July 21st 2007 * EMAIL Phil Brown * images-photographs-pictures © Dr W P Brown * |
