Portrait of the powerful 2-8-0 locomotive 53809 at Grosmont Station (LMS 9679, 13809, S&DJR 89).
The magnificent and very powerful 53809 (seen leaving Grosmont with a freight train) was originally built for the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (jointly owned by Midland LSWR Railways) in 1925 at Robert Stephenson & Company Newcastle, Tyne and Wear (RS 3895). Wheel arrangement 2-8-0 and classified as 7F heavy freight locomotive, though often hauled passenger trains e.g. I first saw it Bournemouth ~1960 on a train from Bath.
A sequence of 6 shots of 53809 double heading a freight train with 49395 leaving Grosmont station for Goathland sidings.

The railway trip involves seeing or travelling behind a 'real' steam locomotive or heritage diesel in action and there is nothing like the sight and sounds of a steam train to invoke feelings of nostalgia in some of us, even more luxury by having a special trip out on a steam dining train!
