Visiting Ex GNR Gresley CLASS N2 0-6-2T tank engine 1744, built at the North British Locomotive works in 1921. Ex BR number 69523, LNER locomotive number 4744, then 9523. Worked the trains from Kings Cross to Hertford.
1744 waiting at Grosmont station. This Great Northern Railway 0-6-2 tank engine was developed by Gresley from an earlier Ivatt design. They became LNER class N2 locomotives and were designed for working suburban trains and empty coaching stock trains in and out of Kings Cross Station. Many, including 1744, were fitted with condensing apparatus in order to save water when working on the Metropolitan' widened' lines between Kings Cross an Moorgate.
1744 is currently owned by the Gresley Locomotive Society.
