33c. West Hartlepool (3) PSS Wingfield Castle and Jackson Dock P.S.S. WINGFIELD CASTLE
The PSS Wingfield Castle is permanently moored in Jackson Dock (opened in 1852).
The Paddle Steam Ship is the largest exhibit of the Museum of Hartlepool and was built in Hartlepool in 1934.
She worked as a passenger ferry on the River Humber and was designed to carry foot passengers, cars and livestock such as cattle!
In the 2nd World War she carries troops and supplies along the River Humber.
The engine room, top-upper deck, paddle wheel, bridge and ventilation funnels, and the 1st class lounge has been converted into a cafe!
