The Bowes Museum is WELL WORTH A VISIT, a really good set of galleries and museum exhibits that is difficult to fully explore in a day AND note that the often slightly blurred photographs are hardly the real thing but I hope they will give you an appetite to visit the Bowes Museum near the town centre of Barnard Castle.

The Bowes Museum is at the upper end of Newgate in Barnard Castle. It looks a bit like a French châteaux or huge town hall. The Bowes Museum was designed by Jules Pellechet (1829-1903) and begun in 1869. The Bowes Museum houses the collections, especially Spanish art and of furniture and ceramics, of Mr John Bowes , son of the 10th Earl of Strathmore, and his wife, the actress Josephine Benoite, later Countess of Montalbo.
