1. Train from Darlington, Northallerton or
York to London and 'architectural' views of their stations and Kings Cross & St Pancras Stations

At the time of this trip in 2007 the railway
company GNER had the franchise on the east coast mainline trains
following in the great tradition route of the 'Flying Scotsman' trains from the
great age of steam travel.
The East Coast Mainline franchise is now held
by National Express.

The magnificent Victorian iron arched
structure of Darlington Station for trains to Edimburgh or London.

Kings Cross Railway
Station, London, was opened in 1850 for the former companies of the
London North Eastern Railway Company.

The magnificent brickwork
and stonework of the Victorian St Pancras Station and Grand Hotel, the
work of the architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. It was completed in 1876
for the Midland Railway.


The newly painted great
iron structure supporting the arched roof of St Pancras International Terminal
Station, now the terminus of Eurostar trains to the continent.
Travelling by steam train always
seems a pleasure, especially if through wonderful scenery either in
England, Scotland, Wales or on holiday in the rest of Europe! Railway
trips involving seeing or travelling behind a 'real' steam locomotive in
action is something special and there is nothing like the sight and
sounds of a steam train to invoke feelings of nostalgia in some of us! *
There are many steam heritage railway lines including dining car
facilities so you can eat a great meal as scenery passes by so see below for other
railway 'connections'!
