THE LOCALITY of Lealholm Hall Holiday Cottage

Lealholm hall is situated one mile from the village centre which has a shop, post office, pub, garage and a famous garden centre.  The village is situated in the Esk valley, on the Whitby to Middlesbrough line which follows the course of the river. There are many villages and dales to visit e.g. Castleton (the tea room a must!), Commondale, Danby, Ruswarp, Danby Dale, Rosedale, Fryup Dale, Westerdale and on the coast  Sandsend beach, Staithes harbour (a favourite for artists), fossil hunting at Ravenscar, and the Jurassic dinosaur coastal cliffs.

Lealholm is 9 miles from Whitby, although the nearest coast is the picturesque villages of Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay, both of which are perched on the cliffs of the Cleveland Way.  There are many attractions on the North Yorkshire Moors and nearby. Whitby has its 'Dracula' week, Folk Music Festival and a replica of Captain Cook's ship, the Endeavour.

The next village of Danby has the North York Moors’ Visitor Centre.  Nearby is the village of Goathland which is famous for the North York Moors steam railway. It’s station features in the recent Harry Potter film as Hogworts station. (The right picture below shows the famous LNER locomotive 60007 Sir "Sir Nigel Gresley" leaving Grosmont station for Pickering)

It is also home to ‘Aidensfield’ of TV's Heartbeat fame (left picture below).

There are many other places within a 1 hour drive e.g. the resort of Scarborough and York and on route to York is Castle Howard, which is a major attraction and was used in ‘Brideshead Revisited’.   There is also the  Captain Cook Museum at Marton, the magnificent Rievaulx Abbey and the Folk Museum at Hutton-le-Hole.
