52. The Scenic Atlantic Drive, Achill Island, Co. Mayo
The pub and tourist centre at Cashel and then onto Dooega.
The coast at Dooega where this a good short 'fresh breeze' walk to Dooega Head.

Moving south-east to Ashleam Bay for more wonderful west coast of Ireland Atlantic ocean scenery.

We then moved further on to Achill Sound, Kildownet and Dereens.

Kildownet Castle (Kildavnet Castle Davnet) with Carraun Hill in the distance.
The 'castle' is essentially a fortified tower house built in the 1400's.

Now that's the way for a dog to get around on this Atlantic coast!
The old cemetery and church at Kildownet (Kildavnet Church ~1700). An ancient Christian site by tradition but there was definitely a church here in the 16th century probably built by the 'Pirate Queen' Grace O'Malley to serve worshippers of the nearby castle.

The church ruin probably dates from the 17th-18th century but built on the site of a much earlier church.
On the right is the grave of the 10 victims of the Kirkintillock fire tragedy of Glasgow in 1937, all of whose bodies were returned to their place of birth.
