9. Some modern and ancient 'historical' bits of the Renvyle Peninsula, Connemara, Co. Galway
An unusual 'headstone' in the graveyard at Renvyle Point.
The ruins of the ancient medieval church at Renvyle Point and contains a priests grave.
The ruins of Renvyle Castle and some of the islands of the Connemara coast - fantastic views and we were staying in a cottage just down on the right of the picture.
The five fingers prehistoric stones below Tully Mountain are a 3000-4000? thousand of year old bronze age observation stone alignment for the setting of the solstice midwinter sun on Dec 21st.
Stacks of good Irish peat-turf on the hills above the Renvyle Peninsula ....
.... which caused one of the few traffic hold-ups outside of Dublin! However, plenty for the passengers to admire and aid ones patience e.g. Tully Mountain (right) and wild flowers (left)! |
