6. Connemara National park, Co. Galway, Tully Mountain and views of the Twelve Bens followed by tea at Kylemore Abbey cafe!
We were staying in a holiday cottage near the ruins of Renvyle Castle on the Renvyle Peninsular where Tully Mountain always seems to be in view, so it had to be climbed. Halfway up Tully Mountain, looking west out to the Atlantic Ocean. Its not a high mountain BUT its a spectacular walk of varied views. This is a wonderful area to holiday in with lots of good walking and family days out on Renvyle Beach (see page 7).
View from near the top of Tully Mountain, Croagh Patrick (left of centre distant pyramid peak), the Mweelrea Mountains (centre) and the Maam Turk Mountains on the right ('Maam Turks').
The Twelve Bens of Connemara from the Top of Tully Mountain.
The Twelve Bens on the descent.
Descending Tully Mountain and looking across the tiny Ballynakill Harbour to the Twelve Bens.
The Twelve Bens and Ballynakill Harbour-Pier at the foot of Tully Mountain.
Tully Mountain from the road to Cleggan.
After climbing Tully Mountain its off to Kylemore Abbey for refreshment and the glorious food of the nuns! It is/was? a private school which is closing/closed?, God forbid they do not close the tearoom! but enough of these dark thoughts, its back to our super 'out to sea view' cottage (below) on the Renvyle Peninsular with the ruin tower of Renvyle Castle on the left.
Now that's what you call a view from a holiday cottage! |
