HOMEPAGE for all of Phil and Molly's PicsViews of Carlton, near Helmsley, North Yorkshire

16. The church in the hamlet-village of Carlton

church in Carlton

I'd noticed this 'disused'? church in Carlton years ago and somewhat intrigued by it. Is it medieval or late Victorian or what? It is situated 2 miles north of Helmsley on the 'country' road to Bransdale and Bilsdale. Can anybody tell me about it? OS Grid ref. 610867

Fine stonework on the tower.

Fine stonework on the tower, but overall the church seems in a general state of disrepair, which seems a shame for such a potentially fine building.

The south facing porch feels very medieval.
