Long may this line A Railway Trip from Middlesbrough to Whitby on the Esk Valley Line
A two carriage diesel multiple unit on the Esk Valley Railway line passing The North York Moors National Park centre at Danby Lodge as train passes, yet again, over the River Esk.
A pictorial journey down the Esk Valley Railway line from Middlesbrough on Teesside in Cleveland to Whitby Town in North Yorkshire, England, following the course of the River Esk for mile after mile. You can start at any station to go up or down the line, note the pictures involve trains travelling in either direction at various points between the stations. The track is owned by network rail and non-steam trains operated by Northern Rail 2007-2008. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates a VERY limited number of steam trains between Grosmont and Whitby and sometimes from Grosmont to Battersby but most of their steam trains run from Grosmont <=> Goathland <=> Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors privately run heritage railway. I've used quite a few of the steam train pictures to illustrate the journey because you can stick your camera out of the window and provide nostalgic views from the past! PLEASE NOTE: For more details of a picture put the mouse over a picture or scroll down. You can also click for the 'previous picture' (on link <== or via browser) in the Middlesbrough direction or click on the 'next picture' in the Whitby direction (or on ==> link below picture) but you click on a picture, you go to the next one in the Whitby direction. The scenery really starts from Nunthorpe onwards but there are interesting places all along the route from Middlesbrough on Teesside in Cleveland to Whitby in North Yorkshire So, just clickity click along from location 00 to 18!
