Scenes in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines Index
42a. Call in at Reeth and off to walk from Langthwaite in Arkengarthdale up Slei Gill Sleigill)
The centre of Reeth village.
A pleasant friendly village to call in at for some 'Reeth refreshments' before or after a good walk in Swaledale
Some good pubs occupying some old fine buildings ...
and all offer good hospitality ....
... and then north up Arkengarthdale to Langthwaite to start the walk then ...
Walk 9 "Slei Gill and Booze Moor" from Paul Hannon's Walking Country "Swaledale"
There always seem to be cocks and hens in Langthwaite car park.
Turn right out of the car park and head towards the village ...
... but soon turn right down to the Red Lion Pub ....
... and crossing the bridge over the river.
Then turn right at the Red Lion to follow the path by the river.
Then follow the path up through woodland which eventually leads up Slei Gill (Sleigill).
But, just before the ascent, Greenways Flock of pedigree Ryelands Sheep! As delightful as the wild flowers!
Looking west down to Swaledale.
Passing up Slei Gill passed evidence of the old lead mine workings.
Looking down Slei Gill across to Calver Hill on Reeth Low Moor.
North Rake hush ?
The 'disfigured' landscape from lead mining.
A pause for lunch while the weather improved! Our friendly Scottie wasn't bothered at all - tougher than you think are these Scotch Terriers!
